Angelo's Palace Pizza defies the odds-Again

Updated: Jun 11

While the state has started to remove the restrictions that strangled small businesses, restaurants have begun to reopen at capacity. One of our favorites in Cumberland took the time down to completely reinvent their space. Angelo's Palace Pizza has renovated once again and each time the reveal is that much sweeter-but for different reasons than one might imagine.

Now don’t get me wrong, my wife and I love a good reno, especially when the bar seating is completely redesigned to accommodate 30 or so patrons. Increased dining spaces, new trendy light fixtures, the great patio and an innovative robot runner to help deal with the labor shortage all are a story of their own. That story has been told though, several times.

The story I’d prefer to tell is the commitment by the owners. The determination of a family to not be beat by a pandemic, but to come out stronger and better than ever. To expand their capacity rather than reduce it. To help lead an industry hit harder than most. To introduce a new menu and redesign their entire operation all while staying true to their history. This was an incredible effort with a remarkable outcome for a family that refuses to be kept down.

As a member of two family businesses I can certainly understand what this kind of transformation takes-especially during such an uncertain time. Small businesses don’t have set hours. Somebody calls out, the owners do the work. I was speaking on the phone to Bill while he was delivering orders just last week. Late nights, early mornings, phones are always going. Running a family business is 24/7 in our new world, no time off. It isn't a job, it's a lifestyle. The Kitsilis Family epitomizes what a family business is and what it takes to be a success.

Congrats on all of your accomplishments from the beginning to today and beyond. We look forward to many more years of enjoying your visions, whether it be on the menu or within the establishment, but most importantly, we look forward to seeing Chrstine, Alex and Bill...save us the two end seats at the bar!!!
